OutKast’s Andre 3000 is to star in a new film about a musical prodigy.

He has signed up with Element Films to make what is being dubbed the untitled Andre Benjamin (the rapper’s real name) project.

Emmy-winning TV director Paris Barclay in talks to direct the movie and shooting is expected to start in September in New Orleans, says, Hollywood Reporter.

Set in the mid-1970s, the project follows the story of an upper-middle-class musical prodigy named Valentine and a lower-class free-spirited woman whose families are opposed to their interracial relationship.

Problems arise when an accidental shooting caused by Chevon’s police officer brother is blamed on Valentine.

Andre said: “This is a story that I have been passionate about being a part of for a long time. This project is coming to life at a perfect time in my theatrical career. The whole team is really excited about the possibilities.”

He’s also working on a Cartoon Network series and a Jimi Hendrix biopic, while he’s already completed a part in MGM’s upcoming Be Cool.
