Jimmy James Johnson, the man who allegedly began the melee at November’s Vibe Awards by attacking Dr. Dre, entered a not guilty plea to assault charges at his arraignment on Monday (January 10), in Los Angeles. MTV.com reports that Johnson, who is currently behind bars because of a parole violation, will be back in court on January 26 to set a date for a preliminary hearing.

Johnson approached Dr. Dre during the award show and appeared to request an autograph. He then punched the producer in the face before Dre’s security detail and members of the G-Unit could intervene.

Rapper Young Buck of the G-Unit was later charged with assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly stabbing Johnson during the melee. Young Buck, who is currently free on $500,000 bail, will be arraigned on Friday (January 14). The rapper, whose real name is David Darnell Brown, faces up to eight years in prison if he is convicted. Authorities are still attempting to identify two other men captured on a videotape waving knives during the incident.
