DAVE GROHL has been in a LOS ANGELES studio getting behind the drumkit with GARBAGE, for the band’s follow-up to 2001’s ‘BEAUTIFULGARBAGE’.

The collaboration also meant a reunion for Grohl and Garbage sticksman Butch Vig, who produced Nirvana’s legendary ‘Nevermind’.

In a posting on Garbage’s official website, singer Shirley Manson said: “Dave Grohl (or Mr Fantastic as our producer has taken to calling him) came by the studio today (January 6) and HAMMERED some drums down on ‘Bad Boyfriend’ and the result is fucking AWE-INSPIRING!!!!! ”

She added: “OOoohhh….I am FINALLY having so much fun making this record. It feels like how you imagine making records would be. Exciting and creative and joyous. And we’ve just made so much progress in a week that I can actually imagine we might finish this damned thing after all!!!!”

Vig also said: “Just had Dave Grohl in to play drums on ‘Bad Boyfriend’ and it’s absolutely slamming.”

As previously reported on, the studio where Nirvana recorded part of ‘Nevermind’ has been demolished in a freak accident involving a 10-tonne truck.

Smart Studios, in Madison, Wisconsin, were ruined in September when the truck veered off the road after hitting a car at a busy junction near the complex.

The studio, owned by Vig, was being used by Garbage for work on the new album. Dramatically, they had left just an hour before the truck hit.

The new as-yet-untitled Garbage album is due to be released in February/March next year and Vig describes it as “a lot noisier and darker, less poppy than the last album”.
