Famed jeweler Jacob Arabov, referenced in songs by R. Kelly and Kanye West, has been arrested on money laundering charges, a spokeswoman for the Drug Enforcement Administration said Thursday.
Spokeswoman Erin Mulvey said Arabov was arrested around 10 a.m. Thursday at his midtown Manhattan store.
An Arabov spokesman, Paul Wilmot, also confirmed the arrest.
“The arrest of Mr. Arabov is the result of an unfortunate misunderstanding that we believe will be straightened out in the next several weeks,” said Wilmot, a spokesman for Jacob and Co.
He added, “We are confident that once the government is advised of all the facts surrounding these issues that all of the charges against Mr. Arabov will be completely dismissed.”
Arabon has been name-checked in many hip-hop hits, including The Game’s “Hate It or Love It” and West’s “Touch the Sky,” in which the rapper says he “went to Jacob an hour after I got my advance” on his recording contract.
