Rapper Foxy Brown, accused of assaulting two nail salon workers, rejected a plea deal Friday that would have kept her out of jail and would have involved no probation or conditions.
Brown, 25, got the offer during her appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court, where she faces misdemeanor charges of assault, attempted assault and harassment stemming from a dispute last Aug. 29 in the Chelsea salon, called Bloomie Nails.
Brown’s lawyer, Joseph Tacopina, said Brown was not interested in any resolution that involved her admitting to a crime. He said the offer, a plea to a misdemeanor with no jail time, was “normally a good one, but she’s not guilty.”
Judge Melissa Jackson scheduled Brown’s next appearance for July 28, when the court will issue decisions on motions. Tacopina said he plans to file a motion to dismiss the charges against Brown on the ground that they cannot be proved.
Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was accused of punching and kicking the two salon employees in a dispute over payment for a pedicure and a manicure. “I got the pedicure, but they didn’t give me the manicure,” she said after her last court date.
The hip-hop princess said they wanted to charge her for both. She says they locked the door so she couldn’t leave the shop at 23rd Street and Eighth Avenue.
Prosecutors say Brown hit Myoung Yi repeatedly about the body and face with a cell phone in her closed fist and also kicked her. They say she hit a manager, Sun Ji Song, causing “bruising and swelling to the face, as well as substantial pain.”
They say salon employees ran out to Brown’s car and stood in front of it to keep her from driving away.
As she left court Friday and headed for her silver-colored Bentley, Brown, wearing sunglasses, Chanel, and high heels, said, “I have confidence in the criminal justice system. I am confident that I will be exonerated.”
Tacopina said Brown will be on tour most of July promoting her “Black Rose” album.
