Lengendary lyricist Rakim was appeared before a Family Court in Suffolk County, New York on Wednesday to provide documents that proved he was not a deadbeat dad.
The rapper was taken into custody on Tuesday night as he prepared to perform at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC.

After providing the proper documentation in court, Rakim was released. Rakim’s manager and business advisor both said their client was erroneously arrested.

A woman claiming to be the mother of Rakim’s child called New York’s Hot 97 radio station and was interviewed by hosts Miss Info, DJ Envy and Ebro Darden.

The woman claimed that Rakim was a poor provider and that there are orders in Suffolk and Connecticut for him to pay nearly $25,000 in child support.
