Daniel Bedingfield will remain in hospital for at least a week after suffering injuries in a car accident in New Zealand.

Bedingfield, 24, suffered neck injuries and lacerations when the Jeep Cherokee he was driving rolled over on Friday on a rural road near the North Island town of Whangarei, New Zealand television reported.

Police said on Friday that Bedingfield had been discharged after being treated for moderate injuries.

However, a spokesman for the singer said Bedingfield would remain at Whangarei Base Hospital under observation for at least one week, New Zealand’s TV3 reported.

Bedingfield was holidaying in New Zealand at the time of the accident.

The New Zealand-born star had to be cut out of the wreckage by firefighters. Witnesses said he was lucky to have escaped serious injury.

Bedingfield burst on to the British dance scene in 2001 with the breakthrough album Gotta Get Thru This, most of which he recorded in his bedroom.

That song and two others went to No 1 in the British charts and the album sold more than three million copies.
