A Perfect Circle may not be the seamless unit that their name suggests, according to MTV.com. The members of the band, particularly founder, guitarist, and producer Billy Howerdel and lead singer Maynard James Keenan, have reportedly disagreed on everything from song selection to artwork. Howerdel apparently did not want “Weak And Powerless” for the album’s first single, and also didn’t like the cover art of their new album, Thirteenth Step–both chosen by Keenan.

Howerdel admitted that he even battled Keenan over the musical direction of the band. “We were trying to get the music to be complimentary to what he had in mind for lyrics, so we were trying to adjust the music more, than have him respond to the music,” Howerdel said. “He definitely made the executive decisions about how he wanted the overall sound to be, you know, which is hard, but probably a good exercise for me if I want to continue on as producer.”

A Perfect Circle is currently trying to decide between “Blue” and “The Outsider” as the next single from Thirteenth Step.

The band’s North American tour kicks off on October 31 in San Antonio, Texas, and is scheduled to run through December 5 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  1. The Pet should be their next single. It has a sound that would work well on the radio and content of the lyrics work well in a time such as this.
